Ayurvedic Medicine offers a different approach to detox
Tue May 22 2007
Almost everyone these days has tried a detox in some form or other and it seems there are almost as many programs out there as there are different types of diets. Ayurvedic medicine, having been around for some 3,000 years has long promoted the benefits of detoxifying the body but does so in a way that's quite different from many systems out there today.
With many forms of medicine the primary action is symptomatic care, which means the treatment offered purely aims to alleviate symptoms. However, Ayurvedic medicine and especially its detox treatments offer causative care which, by going deep into tissues, softens, loosens and mobilise toxins, enabling the body to eliminate them forever, thereby providing a clear space for health and immunity to develop.
If you think of your body like a garden, sickness or pain can develop like weeds and if the weeds are cut off at surface level (symptomatic care), for a while the garden looks healthy. However, with time, without removing the roots of the weed (causative treatment), they can grow back again and again.
