What if… “An Apple a day” really worked?
Wed Aug 15 2007
An apple a day keeps the Doctor away!! We have all heard it and it sounds so easy. Question? Do you eat 1 piece of fruit, 7 days a week, every week, every day without fail-even on the week-end? What about vegetables? At least one serve, everyday, every week?
More than 200 scientific studies, worldwide, show that if you eat a variety of fruits and veggies you will be thinner, healthier, even happier and of course you will have much less chance of disease-probably less chance of any serious Doctors visits?
Interesting observation...Why did it take hundreds of international research scientists, more than 200 research studies to figure out we should eat more fruit and veggies? My mum has been telling me that for as long as I can remember!!
Interestingly, it seems that the things that are easy to do, even the things we know will work, are also easy not to do. We keep looking for a fast, magical, fat loss, weight loss, health and fitness miracle but what would happen if we applied the simple concept of…
- Eat less-move more
- Eat less junk food, eat more fruit and veggie foods
- Get some regular huffy puffy exercise
- Get stronger to protect your body, improve your quality of life and turn your body into a fat burning machine
- And stick with it rather than giving up after one Monday or one week?
It really is that simple!! However, this is where the “Excusitis” usual begins…
- “I am too busy to eat fruit and veggies, they take to long to prepare!!”
- “I am too busy to exercise it takes too much time!!”
Careful…
- Peeling a banana takes no more time than peeling the wrapper off a chocolate bar
- You can order your pizza with or without veggies
- Drinking a fruit juice takes no more time than drinking a beer
- A sandwich without butter is quicker to prepare than a sandwich with it
- Often walking 2 blocks is quicker than driving
- Walking the stairs is much quicker than standing on the escalator
- 100 mins of exercise each week is only about 1% of your time
Can you afford not to find the time to eat an apple or walk a couple of blocks?
It is all a matter of choice. Choose not to make some simple changes and you may have to find the time to…
- Go shopping for bigger clothes
- Be sick
- Be at the Doctors office or in the hospital or worst-case scenario; end up with no time left!!
The choice is ALWAYS yours!!
